Public and Government Offices – Assistance and Service Provided to the New Immigrant

The Ministry of Absorption

  • Issuance of Teudat Oleh (immigrant’s booklet) or Teudat Zakaut (eligibility booklet)

The Finance Ministry

  • Leniency in customs payments for electrical goods/household goods/car/equipment for the establishment of a business
  • Income Tax – Credit points
  • Discount in Apartment Purchase Tax

 

The Transport Ministry

  • Converting foreign drivers license

 

The Ministry of Health

  • Professional licensing

 

The Israel Defense Force

  • Israeli citizens must report immediately to the I.D.F. recruitment office. The beginning of army service is usually after the first year from date of Aliyah
  • Assistance to Lone Soldiers

 

The Ministry of Education

  • Evaluation of academic degrees/diplomas
  • Additional lessons to assist new immigrant school children

 

National Insurance Institute

  • Stipends for minor children
  • Old-age stipends
  • Disability stipends
  • Guaranteed minimal income
  • Health Insurance

During the first year, Olim receive a guaranteed minimal income from the Ministry of Absorption. The registration to Medical Health Funds should be taken care of during the first week of Aliyah through the Postal Authority Post Offices.

Housing Ministry

  • Rental subsidy
  • Mortgage

Referral through the Mortgage Banks

Labour and Welfare Ministry

  • Registration at the Employment Service (in order to receive guaranteed minimal income, to look for work, registration for retraining or professional courses).
  • Welfare services for families, single parents, elderly, youth, etc.

 

Olim Organizations

  • General advisory service, assistance in job search, social activities, assistance in establishing a network of contacts

 

Local Authorities

  • Discount in Municipal Tax (up to 90% of the amount)

Registration to pre-school and school is done through the local authorities.

Other

  • Exemption from the Television Tax for one year

The Broadcast Authority

  • Opening of a bank account.
